Happy Spring! After a cold, dark winter, the earth renews itself––many animals awaken from their long winter’s nap, plants everywhere begin to grow and bloom anew. The time for a fresh start and new beginnings.
Many of us set New Year’s resolutions in January, yet often those goals have been forgotten and neglected by March. Interestingly enough, the new year was once celebrated around the time of the spring equinox––so, what better time than spring to reevaluate our New Year’s resolutions and get back on track?
Although the question as to whether food addiction exists has a complex answer, the simple response is, Yes. Recent research demonstrates that it is indeed entirely possible for people to be addicted to something as basic and essential as food. In fact, this form of addiction has been growing steadily in the United States, and around the world.
More than seventy percent of Americans are over-weight, and even more are unhealthy due to poor diet. The biggest reason that Americans are in this health crisis is the type and quantity of food that they eat. Why would so many people continue choosing to eat foods they know will make them overweight, and feel sick? Simply put––they are addicted to food.

Hello there, my friend and welcome! My name is Maya, the founder here at Nuuaria, I’m also a registered dietitian, and a Diplomat of the American Institute of Stress.
With myself, and Nuuaria, we’ve been in the weight-loss industry now for over twelve years and if there’s one thing we absolutely, for sure know to be true, it’s that most people know what to do is just a matter of actually doing it.

Time and time again, I hear people say that they simply cannot accept themselves as they are. They may say, “I can accept myself after I’ve lost the weight,” or they may think they will be able to accept themselves when they have learned to control their shopping, drinking, gambling, or any other undesired activity that they’re convinced makes them unworthy of true self-acceptance. The truth is, every single one of us is deserving of complete acceptance regardless of the fact that we may have unmet goals.

“Change your thoughts and you change your world” a powerful quote by Norman Vincent Peale which I often reflect upon, and find comfort in. In essence it means that each of us has the ability to create our own mindset. We can choose to have a mindset focused on failure, setbacks, and perfectionism, or we can nurture a mindset of growth, positivity, and joy. Everything we need is within us, we just need to understand how to unlock the tools needed to cultivate a new mindset.
Turns out, I was missing a couple of key elements in my life. Self-love and self-care. Remember that at the beginning of any flight, the flight attendants give safety instructions, one thing they always say is: “put your own oxygen mask on first, before you help your child or others.” It is the same with self-care. Investing in and loving yourself is like putting on your own oxygen mask on first. This is something you have to do; only when you can breathe easily can you help those around you.
